Ratchaprasong, APRIL 14, 2010: Core United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leader Natthawut Saikua has this morning announced that all red-shirt protesters and infrastructure will today be moved from Phan Fa Bridge to Ratchaprasong on Ploenchit Rd in central Bangkok.

The decision to consolidate the protest in the heart of the Bangkok business and shopping district was reached following a meeting of UDD leaders where fresh information relating to the ongoing security risk to protesters was tabled.

In addition to consolidating protesters in the center of Bangkok, upgraded security arrangements will be implemented at and around the Ratchaprasong stage following the information tabled this morning.

Mr. Natthawut said business owners in and around the Ratchaprasong rally site have nothing to fear from the consolidation as the red-shirt protesters were committed to protesting peacefully.

“We regret any inconvenience the relocation will cause to business owners in the area but information we have from inside the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) indicates that certain faction are still intent on using violence against the red-shirt protesters.

“Currently many of our supporters are participating in Songkran celebrations and we have determined that the risk of further violent assaults against our peaceful demonstration are highly likely and believe that our best defense against any such attacks is to consolidate our protest at Ratchaprasong”, he said.
